Consecutive Interpreter

The speaker speaks while the interpreter takes notes. After the interpreter reads the notes of the speech aloud in the target language. Consecutive interpreting is very skilled and the interpreters need to be capable to reproduce speeches of up to twenty without loosing details.

This skill is used is used in press conferences like business negotiations and by telephone. One has to bear in mind that it can lengthen the meetings by more than double and it is not advisable in very interactive meetings; but in meetings it can be useful as he client can verify the accuracy of the interpretacion and take advantage by listening to what was said twice. By telephone, it's done through conference call, for calls between persons that don't have a language in common. (This can be done simultaneously too, but the sound is not always of sufficient quality, and the speaker does not have the option to listen to what he has said, in case he wants to change anything). There are many consecutive nterpreters that do not do consecutive interpreting. While people think that they can do any type, in reality, it requires a lot of training and an extrovert personality.
